Region No 4 (Bhairahawa) registered their third consecutive victory at the Springwood Senior One Day National Cricket League beating Region No 5 (Nepalgunj) by 165 runs today.
At the TU Stadium, Mehboob Alam took 7-25 as Region No 1 (Biratnagar) thrashed Region No 6 (Baitadi) by 200 runs. Electing to bat first, Biratnagar were all out for 244 in 49.4 overs, while Baitadi were packed for a paltry 44 runs in 12.4 overs. Baitadi’s score is the lowest in national tournaments. The previous lowest total was 46 scored by Nepalgunj against Kathmandu in the first edition.
Alam’s figures is the second best in national tournaments. He became the only third player to take seven wickets in an innings. Ritesh Baral of Kathmandu (7-14 against Nepalgunj in 2002) and Narayan Patel of Birgunj (7-27 against Kathmandu in 2004) are the others.
The wickets also took Alam to the third position at the highest wicket-takers’ list with 46 wickets in national tournaments. Raju Basnet of Kathmandu leads with 51 wickets, followed by Binod Das of Birgunj (49). Raj Kumar Pradhan of Biratnagar is fourth with 45 and Shakti Gauchan of Bhairahawa is fifth with 40.
On Tuesday, Biratnagar overcame a poor start to post 244 runs. Legspinner Raj Kumar Pradhan scored fluent 45 off just 42 balls including five fours and a six. Santosh Barai hit three fours and a six in his 30-ball 35. Rajendra Bam took 4-27 and Chandra Saud 3-62 for Baitadi.
In reply, Binod Bhandari (18) was the only batsman to reach the double figures for Baitadi. Apart from man of the match Alam, Manjeet Shrestha claimed 2-19.
At Engineering Campus, Bhairahawa were bowled out for 215 in 46 overs. Nepalgunj could muster just 50 runs in 26.2 overs in reply.
Antim Thapa top-scored with 52 off 68 balls hitting seven fours and skipper Shakti, who hit three fours in his 73-ball innings, made 50 for Bhairahawa. The duo shared 58-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Shakti then put on 65 runs for the fifth wicket with Sagar Khadka (26).
For Nepalgunj, Meraz Ansari took 4-49, while Nirmal KC and Sandeep Shrestha claimed two wickets apiece. In reply, Nepalgunj were never in contention and were eventually dismissed for 50. No 10 batsman Meraz Ansari (12) was the lone batsman to score in double figures. Faizal Khan and Shakti Gauchan took two wickets each for Bhairahawa.
On Wednesday, Birgunj will take on Bhairahawa at Lab School and Biratnagar will face Kathmandu at the TU Stadium.</description>
