THE KATHMANDU POST REPORT, April 27 -

Anil Mandal top scored with 29 runs while Sagar Khadka and Sunny Pun added 25 and 18 runs respectively. THE KATHMANDU POST, April 26
Nepal will try to maintain its winning streak, as they take on Hong Kong in the last group match of the ACC U-19 Elite Cup Cricket Tournament on Monday.
Nepal, on a crusade to defend the title for the fifth straight time, has already reached the semi-final of the tournament with three wins. Nepal will fight for a win against Hong Kong who hasn’t had an impressive tournament so far. Out of the three matches they played, Hong Kong has won only a single. They defeated Malaysia by six wickets on Sunday.
“We will play for nothing less than a win against Hong Kong which failed to meet the expectation in this tournament,” Nepal’s coach Roy Dias said, “My only worry is the top batting order hasn’t clicked yet.” Captain Gyanendra Malla scored back-to-back half centuries in Nepal’s last two wins, while left arm pace bowler Amrit Bhattaria’s ton saved the first match.
Dias is also worried about the bowling, as two of his main spin bowlers are not hundred percent fit. Sagar Khadka and Lal Bdr. Adhikari are both down with flue.
in addition, Kantipur writes:
According to our coach Mr. Dais, Lal Bdr. could get rest for another batsman as Subash Pradhan will play in wicketkeeper role and Sunny Pun will be a specialist batsman. In the spin friendly pitch today, Nepal will badly miss a specialist spinner and Sagar will lead it with Gyanendra, Prithu, Anil.

The Himalayan Times, KATHMANDU,
Defending champions Nepal cruised to the semi-finals of the ACC U-19 Elite Cup with a game to spare after the three-wicket win over Singapore at the Hubara grounds in Kuwait on Saturday. The four-time defending champions overcame the 172-run target in the 45th over to register their third consecutive victory. In their previous matches, Nepal defeated Saudi Arabi and Malaysia.
Electing to bat first, Singapore were dismissed for 171 in the penultimate ball in the 50th over. Rezza Gaznavi top scored for Singapore with a patient 39 off 67 balls that included three fours and a six. Irfan Madakia also contributed 30 from 43 balls. Tomthy Singhan, Pren Dadlami (16), Prasheen Param (15), Satyavrat Rao (11) and Abhijit Shukla (11 not out) also chipped in valuable runs for Singapore.
Rom Shrestha was the pick of the Nepali bowlers with 3-29 from 10 overs while Sagar Khadka took 2-24 from 10 overs. Amrit Bhattarai (1-30), Chandra Saud (1-28), Lal Bahadur Adhikari (1-35) and Prithu Banskota (1-9) also bagged one wicket apiece.
Nepal had a disastrous start losing Sunny Pun (two) in the first over and Antim Thapa (four) was run out at 30-2 by the 10th over. But a stand of 46 runs between Anil Mandal and skipper Gyanendra Malla brough the defending champions back into the game. Malla, who was also instrument in their win over Malaysia on Thursday, again helped his team’s run chase with a stroke filled 62 runs. Malla struck eight boundaries in his 63-ball knock. Anil Mandal also contributed 36 off 54 balls including four hits to the fence. Known for his explosive batting, Rom Shrestha played a subdued innings making unbeaten 16 from 39 balls. Abhijit Singh was the pick of the Singapore bowlers with 3-22. Satyavrat Rao also claimed two and Abhiji Shukla bagged one wicket for Sigapore. Nepal’s Sri Lankan coach Roy Luke Dais said that the game was too close. “Our guys lost wickets in regular intervals and invited unwanted pressure for themselves,” said Dias adding that his side was lacking a quality spinner.
Malla also believed that they threw untimely wickets and invited pressure. “We also conveded a bit more runs due to our sloppy fielding,” said the Nepali skipper showing concerns that his players are not taking the responsibility seriously. Nepal will play their last Group ‘A’ match against Hong Kong at Hubara grounds on Monday.
In addition, The Kathmandu Post says:
Earlier, Nepal had problems aplenty with bowling as two main spinners Lal Bdr. Adhikari and Sagar Khadka were down with flu. According to team manager Sailesh Kumar Chaudhary, the coach and the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) officials are looking at the option of getting players from back home to replace the unfit ones.
” The match was too close for comfort,” coach Roy Dias said, ” as we lost wickets as regular interval and gave away too many runs due to lapse in fielding.”

THE KATHMANDU POST REPORT, April 23 -
Nepal maintained their domination over the old rival Malaysia in the 2009 edition of ACC U-10 Elite Cup Cricket Tournament as well. The defending champions clinched a comprehensive six-wicket win over Malaysia on Thursday, showing that the four-time defending champions are hungry for more.
The only department of the game Malaysia beat Nepal in was the toss as they gave the title holders a big jolt by deciding to bat thus denying the opponents their tired and tested way of success.
Malaysia set up a target of 204 in 46.5 overs in the match reduced to 48 overs due to late start. A captain’s innings from Gyanendra Malla who remained unbeaten at 86 runs had Nepal reach the target in 46.4 overs at the loss of four wickets. Nepal usually finds it difficult to chase. But a collective effort form Antim Thapa (37) opener Sunny Pun (26) and Anil Mandal (14) saw the defending champions cruise to back to back victory with ease.
Nepal out beat Malaysia in all three departments of the game. Four of the Malaysian batsmen were run out.
Eariler, left arm pace bowler Amrit Bhattarai who had sizzled with the bat took three wickets. Likewise, 90 runs from Keithan and 31 runs from Sarif saw Malaysia get past 200 runs. Anil Mandal took two wickets while Sagar Khadka grabbed one. Nepal play their third group match against Singapore.
www.cricketkuwait.com reports:
Top favorites Nepal were quite comfortably chased a decent Malaysian total of 203 at Unity ground at Ahmadi. Electing to bat first, Malaysia lost their most prolific scorer Faris Almas quite early and it was Shafiq Sharif and Keithan Goonasegharan who steadily built up a 67 runs partnership. Keithan excelled in his drives and pulled with awesome power. The stylish right hander stroked a handsome 90 runs which contained 7 hits to the fence. Shafiq scored 31 runs & Mohammed Nowira hit a quickfire 21 runs
which enabled Malaysia to post 203 runs in 47 overs . Amrit Bhattarai was the most successful Nepali bowler capturing 3 for 38. Anil Mandal took 2 for 40.
Sunny Pun & Anil Mandal gave Nepal a good start and as the partnership was flourishing, Sunny Pun was out for 26 runs and Anil Mandal wa superbly caught by Faris for 14 runs. It was Antip Thapa & Ghyanedra Malla who played with their heads down to ost a match winning partnership of 79 runs.
Ghyanendra drove and cut with superb timing and danced down the pitch to clout the spinners. Malla remained not out with 86 runs which contained 10 fours. Antip Thapa scored 37 runs and Aakash Gupta hit a useful 24 runs. Nepal scored 205 runs in the 47th overs.

The TEAM NEPAL has begun winning their to the title against Saudi Arabia by 137 runs.
This is very good start of the tournament to boost their confidence high, though Saudis are not as strong as others but still win is the win which matters most.
Earlier, Nepal won the toss and elected to bat first to give more batting practice to their batsmen which they didn’t get prior to the tournament. Suddenly, lack of batting practice has shown asupper order again failed and gave responsibility to lower order batsmen to keep NEPAL’s head high which is happily accepted by Amrit, a bowler, who aggressively hit his Carrier best 82 runs with 9 fours and 2 sixes. And he was well supported, partnering 76 runs, by Chandra Saut, another bowler, with 28 valuable runs. Second highest score of Nepalese inning was 38, made by Rom Shrestha and Captain Gyanendra chipped away for 20, who recently made a century against MCC in 3 days match in kathmandu. Nepal finished it’s inning for 233 runs before being bowled out in 49 overs which Saudi’s bowler Waqas took 5 wickets for 35 runs.
Then, it’s turn for our bowlers to defend 200 plus score which is always be easy and they rattled out them for mere 96 runs in 38.3 overs. here, Nepalese specialist batsman Anil Mandal surprising took 2 wickets for 9 runs, Sagar and Lal Bahadur Adhikari also took same 2 wickets and 2 batsmen were got run out.
A big congratulation to winning team NEPAL for getting first win comprehensively, keep doing same…
Well done guys.

KATHMANDU POST REPORT, April 21 -
The boys had left for Kuwait on a high to defend The Asian Cricket Council’s (ACC) U-19 Elite Cup for the fifth straight time. On the eve of their departure on Monday, coach Roy Dias had said he was banking on his two main spinners Lal Bahadur Adhikari and Sagar Khadka to deliver in the flat pitch of Kuwait.
Dais will now have to change his game plan as Khadka is ill with fever and missed the practice session as well. Nepal begin their quest to retain the title when they take on Saudi Arabia at the Hubara Ground in Kuwait on Wednesday.
Injuries apart, Dias is also not happy with the welcome his boys have received so far form the organisers. Having reached a day earlier, all that his team managed to do a day before their match was some stretching and catching practice.
Even the first practice session was on cemented wickets and the coach was clearly unhappy while talking to The Post from Kuwait, “We must practice on turf as we will be playing in turf throughout the tournament.”
This isn’t the only worry for the coach as he suddenly finds himself in a position where he also has to work on his boys’ self confidence as well, as the title holders find themselves discriminated from the organisers.
Nepali team has been isolated from the rest of the teams and instead of a five-star hotel as per the ACC tournament regulations, the team has been kept in an apartment where there is no room service, laundry and other facilities the rest of the participants are enjoying, so much so that the players are having to wash their own clothes.
“The problems have made us more determined to win the tournaments,” captain Gyanendra Malla said. “Added to it is the pressure of living up to our reputation. That is why our approach is to take one match at a time.”
