Republica, KATHMANDU, Aug 8:
Minister for Youth and Sports Ganesh Tiwari Nepali and Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) President Binayraj Pandey met with Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal on Saturday. The duo met with the prime minister after they were invited to discuss about Nepali cricket.
National cricket players had submitted a memorandum to the prime minister last week demanding among other things better prospects for cricketers.
“CAN supports the players´ demands so we requested the prime minister to work toward fulfilling the demand,” Pandey said.
The players in their four-point memorandum had called for forming cricket teams in army, police and APF among others. In reply, the prime minister said corporate houses should also take initiative to form such cricket teams, Pandey said.
The prime minister during the meeting inquired about the CAN activities. He lauded Nepali youths´ performance. On the occasion Pandey informed the prime minister that Nepal could do better if better infrastructure for cricket is developed.
Pandey also informed the prime minister about the Pepsi World Cup Division-5 cricket to be held at Kathmandu in February 2010. “The prime minsiter has asked us to bring a proposal for cricket project, Pandey said adding,“We will request him to construct cricket stadium and an indoor training house at Mulpani.”
